Is KLD enough for ETP design?

No. KLD only tells the hydraulic flow. ETP design also requires BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, pH, oil and grease, colour, peak flow, source-wise wastewater generation, sludge estimate, consent limits, reuse target and site constraints.

Why are BOD and COD important in ETP design?

BOD and COD indicate organic pollution load and treatability. They affect biological treatment size, aeration demand, chemical treatment requirement, sludge generation and whether additional tertiary treatment may be needed.

Why is TDS important if the ETP is mainly for COD and BOD?

TDS affects reuse, RO, scaling, reject quantity, ZLD feasibility and operating cost. Normal biological treatment does not significantly remove dissolved salts, so high TDS must be considered early.

Should wastewater samples be composite or source-wise?

Both are useful. Composite samples show mixed effluent quality, while source-wise samples help identify high-COD, high-TDS, toxic, oily, acidic, alkaline or coloured streams that may need segregation or separate pretreatment.

How does sludge data affect ETP design?

Sludge data affects sludge holding tank size, filter press capacity, chemical dosing, disposal frequency, drying or storage area and manpower requirement. Poor sludge planning can disturb the whole ETP.

What data is needed if reuse or ZLD is planned?

Reuse or ZLD planning requires TDS, hardness, silica, chlorides, sulphates, COD, colour, RO recovery expectation, reject quantity, evaporator load, scaling risk, power cost and final salt or sludge handling strategy.
