It is strongly advisable before major capital expenditure. A feasibility report checks whether the proposed ETP design is suitable for actual wastewater quality, flow variation, pollutant load, space, utilities, sludge handling and compliance expectations.

Is flow in KLD enough for ETP design?

No. Flow is only the hydraulic load. ETP design also requires BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, pH, oil and grease, colour, toxicity risk, batch discharge pattern, source segregation, sludge estimate and target outlet requirement.

Can an old ETP be upgraded instead of installing a new plant?

Yes, in many cases. If the civil tanks, hydraulic capacity or treatment units can be corrected or supplemented, augmentation may be more practical than a completely new plant. This requires technical assessment of the existing ETP.

Does ETP feasibility include ZLD evaluation?

It can include ZLD evaluation when reuse or zero discharge is being considered. This requires checking TDS, scaling potential, RO recovery, reject quantity, evaporator load, power cost, chemical cost and sludge or salt handling.

The industry should share production details, water consumption, wastewater sources, flow data, lab reports, consent conditions, existing ETP details if any, plant layout, expansion plans, vendor proposals and reuse or discharge expectations.

Can a feasibility report help in vendor comparison?

Yes. It gives a technical basis for comparing vendor offers, design assumptions, treatment steps, sizing, exclusions, instrumentation, sludge handling, operating cost and performance commitments.
