SARK ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS

Industrial Wastewater Treatment Consultant for ETP, MBR, RO & ZLD Engineering
Independent process and engineering support for new ETPs, treatment-plant upgrades, water reuse and Zero Liquid Discharge projects.
SARK Engineers & Consultants supports industrial wastewater projects from wastewater characterisation and water balance through process selection, hydraulic design, equipment sizing, PFD/P&ID development, mechanical and electrical engineering, ZLD integration, technical specifications and vendor RFQs.
We also independently assess existing ETPs for augmentation, troubleshooting, water recovery and compliance improvement.
What Does an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Consultant Do?
An industrial wastewater consultant converts wastewater data and production requirements into a technically defined treatment system. The work can include source-wise water balance, wastewater characterisation, treatment-process selection, biological and membrane design, RO recovery assessment, ZLD feasibility, hydraulic calculations, equipment duties, PFDs, P&IDs, plant layout, mechanical/electrical schedules, technical specifications and vendor evaluation.
For an existing plant, the same engineering approach can identify whether the correct solution is operational correction, augmentation, process redesign or replacement.

Recent Engineering Experience: ~800 KLD Industrial ETP & ZLD
SARK is presently developing the engineering basis for an approximately 800 KLD industrial wastewater and ZLD system involving biological treatment, membrane separation, RO recovery, reject management, MEE/ATFD integration and condensate reuse.
The assignment involves closing the overall water balance, reviewing hardness and silica constraints, defining treatment and recycle streams, developing PFD/P&ID and hydraulic documentation, preparing mechanical/electrical equipment requirements and creating procurement-ready technical specifications.

Data Required before Waste Water treatment design, upgrade or troubleshooting
Reliable wastewater-treatment decisions should not be based only on tank size, installed equipment or vendor quotations.
A sound design starts with actual operating data: wastewater flow, pollutant load, production pattern, water balance, sludge generation and the required reuse or discharge target.
For a deeper explanation, see our Data Required for ETP Design guide.
Flow Data
Daily wastewater generation, hourly and batch peak flows, intermittent discharges, hydraulic variation and expected future expansion.
The design should reflect how wastewater actually reaches the ETP, not only the average daily quantity.
pH, Oil, Colour and Toxicity
Industrial effluent may contain acidic or alkaline streams, oil and grease, colour, metals, solvents or chemicals that can inhibit biological treatment.
Identifying these streams early helps determine whether segregation, neutralisation or specialised pre-treatment is required.
BOD and COD
BOD and COD indicate the organic load entering the treatment system and help assess biodegradability, shock loading and biological-treatment requirements.
The relationship between flow and concentration determines the actual pollutant load to be treated.
Reuse or Discharge Target
The required outlet quality determines how far treatment must proceed.
The design basis should clearly define whether treated water is intended for:
-
compliant discharge,
-
gardening,
-
flushing,
-
cooling-tower make-up,
-
process reuse,
-
RO feed,
-
or ZLD.
Treatment should be designed for the actual end use rather than simply adding more treatment stages.
TSS and Sludge
Suspended solids influence clarification, biological loading, sludge production and dewatering requirements.
Design should consider both incoming solids and sludge generated during physical, chemical and biological treatment.
Production & Operating Pattern
The engineering assessment should consider:
-
production capacity,
-
batch or continuous operation,
-
number of operating shifts,
-
product or grade changes,
-
cleaning and wash cycles,
-
seasonal production changes,
-
shutdown patterns,
-
and planned future expansion.
Two plants with the same nominal wastewater flow can require very different treatment systems.
TDS and Salts
TDS, hardness, chlorides, sulphates, silica and other dissolved salts become particularly important where treated water is intended for RO, reuse or Zero Liquid Discharge.
These parameters can directly affect RO recovery, scaling risk and downstream MEE or ATFD load.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does an industrial wastewater consultant do?
An industrial wastewater consultant helps define the right treatment approach based on wastewater quality, flow, production conditions, reuse goals and compliance needs.
Can SARK design a complete industrial ETP?
Yes. SARK can support complete ETP engineering, including design basis, water balance, process design, hydraulics, equipment sizing, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts and technical specifications.
Can SARK design or review a ZLD system?
Yes. SARK can design or review ZLD systems covering RO recovery, reject handling, MEE/ATFD integration, condensate reuse and overall water recovery.
What information is needed before ETP design?
Key inputs include wastewater flow, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, pH, process contaminants, production pattern, reuse target, plot area and future expansion.
Can an existing ETP be augmented instead of replaced?
Often, yes. If the core system is usable, targeted augmentation can solve hydraulic, biological, aeration, sludge or tertiary-treatment limitations at lower CAPEX.
How is RO recovery selected?
RO recovery is selected based on feedwater chemistry, hardness, silica, scaling risk, membrane limits and reject-management requirements.
When are MEE and ATFD required?
They are generally considered in high-recovery or ZLD systems when concentrated RO reject requires thermal evaporation and final solids handling.
Can SARK prepare PFDs and P&IDs?
Yes. SARK can prepare PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic diagrams, equipment schedules and related engineering documentation.
Can SARK prepare vendor RFQs and compare proposals?
Yes. SARK can prepare technical RFQs and compare vendor proposals for sizing, scope, performance, energy, materials and commercial differences.
Does SARK supply ETP equipment?
SARK primarily provides independent engineering and technical consultancy, while equipment can be procured from specialised vendors against the defined engineering specifications.
